Upcycled Christmas card with pop-up effect
An old egg carton transforms into a fantastic pop-up card with a Christmas tree in no time! This craft idea is not only sustainable, but also super easy and fun – perfect for gifting or decorating.
In this step-by-step tutorial, I'll show you how to conjure up a very special Christmas card with just a few materials and a little creativity.

Pop-Up Christmas Card Challende Winter 2025This Christmas card was created as part of a giveaway on Instagram in collaboration with LOVEPOP. Post a homemade, Christmas-themed pop-up card (this one or another) in a story, post, or reel on Instagram by November 25th and tag @lovepop.de and/or @miom_studio.de. This way, you have the chance to win one of four packages of amazing pop-up cards! Alternatively, you can also email me a photo. Check out my Instagram Reel for more information! |
You will need:
Egg carton
Folding card
Scissors (for example, the fine one pictured)
Double-sided tape
Decorative materials as desired
My decorating inspiration:
I decorated one tree with circles from the hole punch and stars from a snowflake punch (Amazon Affiliate Link*).
You can find glittery confetti stars here in my shop.
I also painted the trees with acrylic paints (Amazon Affiliate Link*).
You can find the self-adhesive glitter stones here (Amazon Affiliate Link*).
I decorated the pastel-colored card with these markers (Amazon affiliate link*).
Instructions
1. Cut out one of the cones from the egg carton.

2. Flatten the cut-out cone.
3. Cut two small, thick (approx. 1 x 3 cm) strips from a flat part of the egg carton.

4 Apply double-sided tape to both strips.
5 Fold the taped strips in half, with the double-sided tape on the outside.
6 Now glue each strip halfway into the cone. They should be opposite each other and centered on the two flattened sides of the cone.

7 Place the open card in front of you. Glue the cone into the center of the card. You can either place the cone with the adhesive strips folded inward onto the center of the card, close the card, and press firmly. Or you can place the cone flat into the card as shown and close the card.
The adhesive strips stick on the right and left sides at a 90° angle to the fold.

If you unfold the card, your Christmas tree will stand upright.
8. Decorate your tree and card as desired. Of course, you can also decorate the egg carton cone before gluing it in.
